Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

The Endocannabinoid System & the Brain

Mental health, cognition, emotion, and other processes seated in the brain are regulated by cannabis-sensitive receptors.

What Causes Seizures?

A variety of different things may happen as a result of a seizure, depending upon the region of the brain that is affected. There may be sudden changes in sensory perception, such as visual disturbances or the smell of an unusual odor. There may be rapid and inexplicable emotional or cognitive changes. There are often involuntary muscle movements, and sometimes even complete loss of control over the movement of one’s body. Obviously, this could lead to serious consequences if someone has a seizure while, for example, driving a car.

Concussions & Alcoholism

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) leads to numerous problems, including alcoholism and suicide. New findings indicate that endocannabinoids aid TBI recovery: When researchers boosted 2-AG levels shortly after injury, rats displayed less anxiety and less interest in alcohol. This is significant since alcoholism is a serious comorbidity of brain injury.

Nausea

Nausea is a feeling of sickness with an inclination to vomit. Nausea may be symptomatic of many conditions, including infection, food poisoning, motion sickness, overeating, blocked intestine, illness, concussion or brain injury, appendicitis, and migraines. They can also be a reaction to medications.
