What Is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD, is a complex neurobehavioral condition that includes impairments in social interaction, language, and communication skills combined with rigid, repetitive behaviors. Roughly 30% of those diagnosed with ASD have seizures. Other symptoms may include learning disabilities, ADHD, OCD, depression, or anxiety. About one in 59 children are diagnosed with ASD though that number is growing. Historically, autism diagnoses were more common in boys; however the gender gap is decreasing with improved screening.
